Sheikh ul Alam Memorial GDC Budgam Celebrates National Technology Day with Event on Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Srinagar,21 May 2025: Inspiring Innovation & Entrepreneurial journeys On the eve of National Technology Day, the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Sheikh ul Alam Memorial, GDC Budgam on 20th May, 2025 organized a programme titled “Inspiring Innovation & Entrepreneurial journeys”. The event aimed to ignite creativity, encourage problem-solving, and foster an entrepreneurial mindset among students and young professionals. The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Ghazala Anjum, Convener IIC who emphasized the importance of innovation in today’s evolving academic and professional world. She highlighted the two-star rating secured by Institution’s Innovation Council of the College conferred by AICTE, and expressed the resolve to further strengthen innovation and incubation.

      Dr. Mohd. Amin Malik, principal of the host college in his presidential address appreciated the efforts of the IIC and reiterated the institution's commitment to nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship among students. He reflected on the historical relevance of National Technology Day and emphasized the influence of Quantum Mechanics on technological progress in line with 2025 as International year of Quantum Science and Technology. Stressing the importance of idea creation and innovation for securing employment in today’s competitive job market, he emphasised that we are in a transitional phase that requires a change in mindset. This was followed by a keynote address delivered by Mr. Khalid Jahangir, JKAS, Director JKEDI who highlighted how innovation and entrepreneurship has deep traditional roots. He simplified complex concepts like marketing, pricing, and entrepreneurship using examples. He stressed the importance of observation, understanding, and problem-solving, and outlined key interventions, components, and training programs offered by JKEDI. Mr. Ashaq Hussain Dar, Director In-Charge NIELIT gave a sensitization talk on emerging technological insights. He provided an overview on emerging technological trends in NIELIT, Srinagar  and its current activities. He also highlighted its focus on industry tie-ups and the delivery of industry-oriented courses, such as AI, Quantum computing,  cloud computing, block-chain, and cyber-security, emphasizing their role in building a sustainable future.


 This was followed by an interactive session of students with Dr. Nyla khanday, senior faculty and Range Officer- central JKEDI, who made the students aware of the role of JK EDI in training and taking innovative ideas to the next level.. The chief guest and the invited speaker were felicitated by the Principal while as the IIC president and convenor received certificates for their contributions to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship from the principal and certificates of participation were awarded to IIC members. The event was moderated by Ms. S. Hina Zainab, student of the college, while Ms. Mahvish Altaf, member of the IIC, served as rapporteurs. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. M. Iqbal Dar, President of IIC.
