
Budgam, March 17, 2025 – In a collaborative effort between the District Police Budgam and Sheikh-ul-Alam Memorial Government Degree College (GDC) Budgam, an awareness event on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan – Say No to Drugs was organized today. The event featured expert speakers, including DySP DAR Budgam Mr. Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din, psychologist Dr. Nisar Ahmad Wani, and Dr. Insha Hassan Bhat, In-charge of the De-addiction Centre, DPL Budgam.
The college principal, Dr. Mohd. Amin Malik, delivered the presidential address, stressing the importance of awareness programs, law enforcement, and rehabilitation in combating drug abuse. He reiterated the institution’s commitment to engaging students in curricular and extracurricular activities to promote a drug-free society.
Dr. Nisar Ahmad Wani emphasized the psychological consequences of drug addiction and the importance of maintaining a positive outlook on life. Dr. Insha Hassan Bhat presented data-driven insights on the trauma faced by drug addicts. DySP DAR Mr. Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din shed light on the legal aspects of drug control, including property confiscation from drug peddlers, and urged community participation in curbing drug trafficking.
A debate competition was also held, where students delivered thought-provoking speeches on drug abuse. Ms. Syed Hina Zainab from the 6th semester emerged as the winner and was felicitated with a certificate and a cash prize. The competition was judged by Dr. Naseer Ahmad, Dr. Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, and Miss Syed Mehreen Andrabi.
The event, attended by a large number of students, was moderated by Mr. Arshed Irshad, with Ms. Mahvish Altaf acting as the rapporteur. Dr. Wahid Ahmad Dar concluded the program with a vote of thanks.
The initiative successfully raised awareness about drug abuse and reinforced the importance of collective efforts in eradicating the menace from society.
