Srinagar, 03 February 2025: RMarij Zahoor, Managing Director of GD Goenka Healthcare Paramedical Institute, has expressed strong support for the Union Budget 2023, describing it as a crucial boost to the healthcare and education sectors in Kashmir. The increased funding and strategic initiatives outlined in the budget signal a transformative shift in the region’s development.The Union Budget has allocated ₹98,311 crore to the healthcare sector, a substantial increase from ₹89,287 crore in the previous fiscal year. Mr. Zahoor noted that this heightened investment reflects the government’s commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes for the people of Kashmir.Key initiatives highlighted by Mr. Zahoor include the expansion of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), which aims to bolster health coverage for vulnerable populations, effectively ensuring that essential healthcare services are within reach for many families. Furthermore, the establishment of 200 daycare cancer centres in district hospitals is poised to enhance cancer care infrastructure, making critical services more accessible to patients in need.The education sector also stands to benefit significantly from the budget, as it emphasizes investment in research, skill training, and improved accessibility. An earmarked ₹500 crore for three Centres of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence signifies the government’s focus on fostering innovation and developing a skilled workforce equipped to thrive in a rapidly evolving job market.Mr. Zahoor’s optimistic assessment aligns with the sentiments of various experts who recognize this budget as a pivotal step toward overcoming the development challenges faced by Kashmir. By prioritizing healthcare and education, the government is laying the groundwork for a healthier and more educated population, fueling positive change and growth in the region.
