On August 12, 2024, the Debating Committee of the college organized an inter-college essay writing and painting competition as part of the 77th Independence Day celebration. The event, held in the conference hall of the college at 11 a.m., saw enthusiastic participation from three colleges across the district, including the host college.The program commenced with Dr. Shazia, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, conducting the proceedings. Dr. Wasia, Convenor of the Debates and Seminar Committee, introduced the themes of the competition, emphasizing the significance of August 15th in India’s history. She highlighted the role of the Independence Day celebrations in fostering a sense of patriotism and remembering the sacrifices of the nation’s freedom fighters.The college Principal, Prof. Fouzia Fatima, formally welcomed all participants and guests. In her address, she elaborated on the importance of the day and the various activities organized by the college as part of the Independence Day celebrations, which began on August 1, 2024. She encouraged the participants to express their creativity and understanding of the theme “depiction of Indian freedom struggle and the unsung heroes.”The competitions then began, with participants given one hour to showcase their skills in their respective categories. The painting competition was judged by Prof. Mujeeb Kawoosa and Prof. Sameera Siraj, while the essay writing competition was judged by Prof. Tawseef Ahmad and Prof. Marifat Akhter. In the painting competition, Seerat Shabir from GDC Ganderbal secured the first prize, followed by Zuha Afzal from GCET Safapora in second place, and Furqan Nazir from GDC Ganderbal in third. The essay writing competition saw Sheikh Mohd. Hubaib from GCET Safapora winning the first prize, Azhar-ud-din from GDC Kangan in second place, and Sahil Mushtaq from GDC Ganderbal in third.The winners were felicitated by the college Principal, esteemed judges, and other faculty members with mementos and certificates as a mark of appreciation. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Ulfat, Head of the Department of Psychology.
