J&K POLICE SEIZED ILLICIT TIMBER IN KANGAN, DRIVER ALONGWITH THE VEHICLE ARRESTED.

On the Directions of SSP Ganderbal Shri Sandeep Gupta-IPS, J&K Police District Ganderbal acting on specific input about timber smuggling at Prang Kangan apprehended a timber Smuggler and seized a vehicle loaded with illicit Timber. A special police party of PS Kangan headed by SHO Kangan Inspector Mehboob Banday under the close supervision of SDPO Kangan Shri Muzaffar Jan-JKPS at Check point Gujjar Pati Prang intercepted a Santro bearing Registration No. DL3CAT-1731 ferrying illicit Timber (Kairu).

During preliminary questioning, officers learnt that the timber loaded in the vehicle is illegally acquired from the nearby forest. The accused driver of the vehicle identified as Tariq Ahmad Bhat S/O Gh Hassan Bhat R/O Najwan Kangan has been arrested and vehicle alongwith illicit Timber (Kairu) was seized on the spot & investigation is underway to track down all the accused persons involved in the commission of the crime.

Accordingly, a Case vide FIR No. 38/2024, under relevant sections of law stands registered at PS Kangan & further investigation taken up.

The drive against timber smugglers will continue to ensure protection of Green Gold. The consistent actions of Ganderbal Police against Anti-Social Elements should reassure the community members to keep our society free from crime. J&K Police have resolved to act as per law against those smugglers who indulge in such activities in future also.
