Inclement weather: DC Ganderbal reviews Flood Preparedness

GANDERBAL, APRIL 29: In light of the inclement weather conditions prevailing in the valley, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir, today convened a comprehensive meeting to review the flood preparedness measures across the district.

The meeting, held in the V.C Room of the DC Office was attended by the key officials from various line departments.

During the meeting, the DC took a thorough assessment of the arrangements in place to tackle potential flood situations, which included deployment of dewatering pumps, provision of sandbags, logistical arrangements, identification of waterlogged areas, establishment of control rooms, and ensuring the availability of essential supplies such as medicines and rations.

Additionally, plans for rescue operations were deliberated upon, including the identification of suitable holding places for evacuees.

Instructing the concerned departments, the DC emphasized the importance of proactive measures to mitigate the impact of floods.

The Irrigation and Flood Control Department was tasked with compiling a list of households in low-lying areas, along with the preparation of DPR for both long and short-term measures in such areas.

Similarly, teams comprising officials from relevant departments were formed to identify evacuation locations and vulnerable flood-prone areas.
Furthermore, directives were issued to stockpile essential flood-fighting equipment and materials, including dewatering pumps, sandbags, boats and vehicles.

The Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department was instructed to ensure the pre-positioning of adequate food supplies, while the Health Department was directed to stock emergency medicines in all healthcare facilities across the district.

The DC stressed the importance of timely action and coordination among various departments and agencies to ensure effective response and rehabilitation in the event of any eventualities arising from adverse weather conditions.

Addressing the meeting, the DC said that the Ganderbal District Administration reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, and remains fully prepared to address any challenges posed by adverse weather conditions.

The meeting was attended by SSP Ganderbal, Sandeep Gupta; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Gulzar Ahmad; ACD, Executive Engineer I&FC, PMGSY, along with other district and sectoral officers.
