International Women’s Day 2024 celebrated with vigour in Ganderbal
GANDERBAL, MARCH 08 : District Ganderbal today witnessed a vibrant celebration of International Women’s Day 2024, as various governmental bodies and organizations came together to honor women’s achievements, advocate for gender equality, and raise awareness about women’s rights.
Hosted at the Conference Hall of Mini Secretariat Ganderbal, a mega event was organized by the One Stop Centre (OSC) Ganderbal, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), District Administration Ganderbal, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Department of Education, Department of Social Welfare, and Women’s Cell Ganderbal.
The theme of International Women’s Day 2024, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” set by the United Nations, resonated throughout the event, serving as a poignant reminder of the ongoing need to strive for gender parity, as emphasized by the Global Gender Gap Report 2023 of the World Economic Forum.
District Development Commissioner (DDC), Shyambir, graced the occasion as the chief guest, highlighting the importance of fostering a violence-free environment for women in Ganderbal.
He commended the relentless efforts of OSC Ganderbal and other departments in advancing women’s empowerment initiatives.
During the event, the District Legal Services Authority provided crucial information on laws concerning women, with a focus on enhancing legal awareness among women, empowering them with knowledge about their rights and entitlements.
Distinguished speakers addressed various facets of gender equality, women’s empowerment, protection from domestic violence, and the imperative for social, economic, and educational empowerment for women.
In conjunction with the event, the Department of Education conducted a brief demonstration on voting procedures under the Sveep programme, reinforcing the importance of women’s participation in the democratic process.
