The Parliament Election proved the historical testimony of mass participation after 35 years.

Syed Karar Hashmi

The Sociopolitical activist Syed Karar Hashmi congratulated the people of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir on making the election process and participation historical as the Combined Voter Turnout (VTR) at the polling stations for the entire Union Territory (5 Lok Sabha seats) was 58.46 % in the General Elections 2024.In a statement to the press, he thanked the tireless efforts of security officials, police and officials of the election commission in concluding the whole election process peacefully and witnessed mass participation of people in an election process first of its kind. He further said that this parliament election, in the absence of fear psychosis of boycott calls from separatists, shutdown calls and the anti-ballot campaign in itself, has been a great achievement since 1989, as the majority of people cast their vote and realized that the ballot is the only answer to all socioeconomic issues and problems confronting people. He observed that the way parliament election concluded peacefully is a reflection of improvement in the situation over the past few years in Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. I am not concerned about who will win and lose, happy to witness new faces and new political parties emerging and making democracy intact here in the valley. He reiterated that the assembly election should be held at the earliest and efforts should be made to designate and view Kashmir as an economic capital of India.
