Young Mountaineer from Thanamang, Darhal Malkan Scales Friendship Peak in Himalayas

Rajouri, 30 May 2025:In a remarkable feat of endurance and adventure, Masab Malik, a young mountaineer hailing from Thanamang village in Darhal Malkan (Rajouri district, Jammu & Kashmir), has successfully scaled the Friendship Peak (5,289 meters / 17,352 feet) in the Pir Panjal range of the Indian Himalayas. This popular and challenging peak is situated in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, drawing trekkers and climbers from across the country.

Masab, known for his passion for the outdoors and physical fitness, has now become the first youth from his region to summit this technically demanding peak. The expedition, categorized as a moderate to difficult level climb, tests not only physical strength but also mental resilience due to steep ascents, icy slopes, and high-altitude climate.

His accomplishment has brought great pride and recognition to the remote area of Thanamang and has highlighted the untapped talent and potential of youth in the Pir Panjal belt.
